Congrats! I’m in dilemma…

:D Pretty excited about getting an MRSM boarding offer. But the sad fact I got MRSM Pengkalan Chepa in KELANTAN, one of the rural states in Malaysia and I think Pengkalan Chepa is quite a distant from Kota Bharu, the capital state. I was very excited to know the fact that I got the offer then I went from that to the valley of dilemma… Should I go or not?

If I go, then I’ll leave everything behind including my friends and my beloved school. If I turn down the offer, I’ll be missing a chance in a lifetime. My whole family is telling me that I should NOT go, due to the fact that it’s very far away and the school is located in a not-so-modern place. Yes, they got the point and I thought the same. However, (hell!) it’s my only chance on going to a boarding school. I kinda like want some changes in my education life. It might be bad, but… Yeah, it is going to be bad. Probably no Internet (which mean no blogging, e-mail etc), bad food, and no more shopping!

According the their website, the requirement is at least 8 A’s so I take that as MRSM Pengkalan Chepa is a nerd school. Few of my friends called me last night, they said they got offers from northern region MRSMs so they are not that far from Alor Star. I’m (currently) the only one who got an offer from Kelantan! I’m supposed to be in school right now but the doctor gave me one day off because of my fever. I guess I should check with my friends tomorrow and see whether they wanted to go or not.

  1. Dude

Just go. You would be proud.

I really missed my former school too and nearly gave up MRSM offer when I decided to give it a try and have no regret since.
The only different thing was I am a Kelantanese and I was hoping for outside of Kelantan MRSMs when they gave me the “belakang rumah” MRSM PC.

And btw, not-so-modern place you say ? You might not agree but most non-Kelantanese I’ve met claimed Kota Bharu is by far much more developed than Alor Setar ! Ha ha ( no pun intended )I have been to Sg. Petani but not yet Alor Star, so couldnt confirm on that.

Rural state ? Ha ha mind you, Kedah is a RURAL state too.. he he

And “nerd school” ? Dude, every MRSM is a NERD school. You should have known that. Only SBPs are not.

For the note, this is MRSM Pkln. Chepa :

At least it is much better now than in my time.

P/s : Nih takmoh gi Kelate nih, orang BN ker ? He he

  2. Okay, how nice of you ;) You actually made me thought about it again, due to the fact that you went to Japan via MRSM.

I want to make some things clear. I said Kelantan is ONE of the rural states in Malaysia, the school is located OUTSIDE the capital town/city, and I didn’t mention that Kota Bharu is not-so-modern instead the location of the school.

I do hope you reply to this, what are the differences between studying in a boarding school and public school?

  3. First,
    ” RURAL ” ( do u mean ” underdeveloped ” ? ) or not is only a term made by lousy politicians …

    Second,
I dont know laar if you define 10km from KB town CENTRE is ” OUTSIDE the capital town/city ” …

    Third,
.. and they have a very lively night market there in PC, even a new HYPERMARKET too ! A pizza hut, a Seven Eleven and errr… a Marrybrown Fam.Rest. ( tak glamer eh ? ). Besides, the famous gateway into Kelantan, the airport is located in PC ( you could even see planes taking off from MRSM PC ! ). So to speak, PC is not like it was in my time. Much livelier these days.

However, you need not to care much about those stuffs cuz once you are inside a boarding school, despite its location, the boarding school would become YOUR ONLY WORLD .. if you get what I mean. Mind you, you are not yet “budak U”. So “developed” or not is the last thing you should think of.

    And finally,
    quote :
” what are the differences between studying in a boarding school and public school? “

It is all about what you CAN’T FIND at a public school ! Especially when you are far far away from home.

You’ll know when you get there.

    And trust me,
life is lame without something “different” …

  4. I strongly agree with ray el-hadeed, life is lame without something “different”, though I have no idea what’s MRSM like. Go Zul. You should give it a try. I promise, I’ll miss you if you do go.

  5. assalamualaikum w.b.t.
